This is an old barn on the restful land
called Bailey Island, Maine. It's right before
the world's only cribstone bridge, and the
image of the weathered wood and
shadows against the bright blue sky struck
me. (Photo courtesy of Kyle MacLea) And
actually, the barn in the painting is located right
there on the right side of the photo!
One of those overcast fall days along
the banks of the Charles, a place I
was rather fond of when I lived in
Boston, either biking or running along
its lengthy sidewalks.
Once again a beautiful vista on Bailey Island. This
house used to be covered with brush and trees,
but the owners revitalized the grounds and
dwelling, producing this lovely view for all who
drive by on their way to Land's End.
This view can be found on
Amory Street, in Brookline,
MA, and just rounding the
bend of this street one is
greeted with the dappling of
the sun through the canopy of
summer leaves. It's a
beautiful area of town, and
right to the left of this scene is
a nice ballfield, plus a
wonderful sanctuary, called
Hall's Pond. I highly
recommend stopping by and
walking the length of the
boardwalk and perhaps you,
too, will witness the
primordial presence of a
Great Blue Heron.
I can't seem to help myself. I
just love the myriad of vistas
one can witness whilst
traveling the areas in and
around Bailey Island. I
believe this particular shot is
on Harpswell Island, right
near a bright old white
church.
It's always a sad occasion
when one has to leave the
island for the summer,
winding your way back to the
mainland with crowded
visions of island splendor,
but something to relish
upon your return home.
Like the yellow chair (see my
"Another Full Page of Art") this
originally was a simple
wooden chair and I came up
with this spare flower motif.
This, too , resides in our
sunroom and I think it's a
nice accompaniment to the
foliage outdoors.
This piece was found at a
yard sale, and it was in
quite the state of disrepair.
So I patched things up and
decided to paint this scene,
something I have also done
on a previous canvas. It's
always nice to not only have
a painting, but to use the
object as well!

This is yet another beautiful vista of Church's Beach, on Cuttyhunk Island.
This view is the opposite of my 'House on the Hill' painting, on my 'More Art'
page. (Just place the cursor over this picture to get that view!)
Once again have I found myself plunged in the wondrous aspects of this tiny
isle, and from this vantage point one can watch the summer sun arc its way
across the azure sky.
I think the best time to catch a little solitary time is when the day begins to
close, and the late afternoon yields to a less populated beach, where one
can sit upon the still-warm sand, barefoot, with perhaps just the slightest
chill and gaze silently at the undulations of the sea.
This then, for me, speaks volumes about being on Cuttyhunk - alone - wholly
immersed in nature, and letting time slip comfortably away.

Mouseover means exactly what it says; just place the
mouse over certain images in my website and another
picture will come up! (No need to click). It will either be a
detail of the same picture, or something entirely different.
Not all images have this feature, but have fun trying it out!
In fact, try it out
on the image to
your right.
Note: The
cursor
(arrow) will
turn into a
'hand' if there
is another
image.
Image will change to my 'House on the Hill' painting, the opposite view of this scene.
