An absolutely stunning field of
limitless sunflowers as
witnessed when I traveled, ever
so briefly, in Tuscany in the early
1990's. I was pedaling along,
having rented a bicycle, and I
just had to stop to capture this
breathtaking vista. And as soon
as I returned to the States, I
immediately poured through my
photos and chose this to paint. If
you ever get the chance to visit
this part of the world, I wholly
recommend it. The atmosphere,
the colors, the scenery is,
indeed, magical!
"Sunflowers in Tuscany" 36x48" acrylic on canvas All Rights Reserved $4,000 (Sold!) This painting was done in half knife and half brush technique, to make a very varied surface. The sunflowers are very tactile, whereas the mountains and sky fade to the touch.

To my left depicts
the "Mass Ave.
Bridge", even
though the real
name is the
'Harvard Bridge".
But I thought how
utterly similar it
looked like a
composition by
Monet. Click on

I could not resist
painting this lovely vista,
a coastal scene once
again found only on
Bailey Island, Maine.
This particular view is
taken from the
Johnson's back yard,
and we affectionately
call this place
'Johnson's Cove'.
My family has been
vacationing here since
the '70's, and it is
always a wonderful
escape, to leave the
turmoil and headaches
behind and immerse
yourself in the briny and
beauteous calm that
embraces this island. It
is, quite "littorally",
heaven itself!

Oh, one more note on this
painting. I used both brush
and knife technique on this
canvas, so the rocks and the
foreground marsh grass are
'knifed', whereas the sea and
sky are all brushwork. I think
it makes for a nice contrast,
the rough, jagged, textured
earth juxtaposed with the
quietude of the ocean and
sky.

Yet another view to be found along the lazy
roads of Bailey Island, the afternoon summer
sun creating long shadows on an old
fisherman's house. This piece shows the
influence of Edward Hopper.

The title to this piece refers to a
woman I met on this enchanting
island of Cuttyhunk. She is rather
spiritual and is a massage &
reiki therapist. Her house sits on
a bluff, overlooking the roiling
sea, and the views are quite
spectacular. This point of view is
the opposite of my painting,
"House Upon The Hill", located
on my 'More Art' page.
If you ever get the chance to visit
this lovely little island, you will not
be disappointed! Also, in case
you need lodging, I recommend
Cuttyhunk Rentals, for lovely
views and nice ambience.

This painting (with yet another nod to Hopper) is ironic, in the
sense that this billboard has been in disrepair for so long, as
evidenced by the shrub masking a portion of the sign. I found this
scene humorous, yet melancholy, a forgotten stretch of road and
a hint of a bygone era.
"Heather Path #1" 24x36" acrylic on canvas All Rights Reserved $900 (Available)

This canvas is wholly different from any of my
previous paintings, in the sense that I did not
use brush nor knife; instead I used my
fingers! The entire painting is done with my
hands, applying acrylics and smudging and
removing it with paper towel.
This scene is actually Walker Pond,
in Sturbridge, a wonderful place to
grow up, as it's right next door to
Wells State Park.
Note: Colors vary from monitor to monitor .
