Fine Art by Paul Grignon: Paintings & Painted Furniture
How many glimpses of Nature have you witnessed in your Life?
Those brief moments where time and space seem to literally dissolve,
and you are left with a vision wholly yours, a view unique, beautiful, and
captured forever in your mind.

This then is the essence of what I try to paint. It is that momentary glance
through a car window, a look that somehow triggers a sense of awe and
wonder, leaving you wanting more of a suspended state of consciousness.
It is a state where your entire Being can be one and in sync with Nature.
These paintings represent those fleeting glimpses where one can
experience every day, for themselves, the sheer power, the allure and the
healing magic that surrounds our souls.

I try to convey in my work the immense power and grandeur of Nature,
where that initial fleeting glance renders a soul serene. But perhaps a hint of
melancholy ensues, for that gaze cannot be sustained. You travel along in
your car, relishing the sight you have just seen and then it's gone--save
for the memory that resides in your head.

The overall impact I wish to convey is the magnificence of Nature and how,
ultimately, it reigns supreme over humankind. These paintings do not
possess people; they are meant to give you, the Viewer, a sense that you
alone have captured this moment, this scene, this glimpse into Nature.

But then, this is my interpretation of my art.

What does it mean to you?

Here are a few of my influences. I am
especially drawn to the haunting and
evocative landscapes of Edward Hopper, as
well as to the ethereal and magical lighting
imbued in Claude Monet's canvases. And
who cannot like the energy of Van Gogh! I am
quite certain that you, too, will find these
random selection of  paintings powerful and
that they will resonate for you, whether
consciously or not. Enjoy!

Here are two of my paintings that
reflect the influence of Monet and
Van Gogh. The one on the left is of
'Brinyview', a wonderful little
cottage on Bailey Island. The
canvas on the right reflects the
imagery that sometimes pervades
your mind, and this painting is
entirely from my imagination.
Perhaps, though, I was
unconsciously influenced by Van
Gogh's 'crow' picture above. But
both paintings I enjoyed doing as
they are wholly different, and they
allowed me to try different
techniques that still become, in the
end, paintings.

The caption refers to a 'murder of crows', and I
tried to convey the frenzy and chaos of such
magnificent birds in wing.
