About Me
Fine Art by Paul Grignon: Paintings & Painted Furniture

Yeah, well, I suppose I can wax rhapsodic,
enlightening you to sundry things about me and my
chosen craft, but that tends to be tedious to say the
least.
On the other hand perhaps I can, with a modicum of
effort, bend your ear for a bit and regale to you various
aspects of my life and what ART means to me, how I
came about creating this web site, something that
showcases my own particular bent on life and all its
varied offerings.
Are... are you still with me? Good.
Ever since being a wee lad, residing in the comfortable
and bucolic environs of Ridgefield, Connecticut, I was
always encouraged to draw by my Mum (she's British,
you know, hence the 'u') and during one of our drawing
marathons (I have six siblings), we created a plethora
of work that only a Mum could truly appreciate.
I was hooked!
Fast forward (luckily for you) to my early twenties (we
had since picked up stakes and moved to Sturbridge,
MA when I was 10) I attended a junior college, honing to
some degree my artistic sense and then...nothing.
Well, save for doodling and drawing on my own. It
wasn't until my mid-thirties when I returned to
academia, finally getting my Bachelor's Degree from
the Art Institute of Boston.
Along with that experience did I meet a wonderful cadre
of like-minded folk, people who encouraged and
commented on my craft, and others who became close
friends, folk who became vividly etched upon my mind.
Please check out my good friend Keith's work at
www.yourillustrator.com
I then embarked upon my art, partaking in a smattering
of Brookline Open Studios, thus encouraged by quite a
few sales, it emboldened me to create more. And for
the next handful of years this sustained myself, the
Open Studios and modeling for all the art schools in
Boston, as well as for a few private artists. Yes, that
was my stint as a nude model, posing for innumerable
upcoming artists as well as established artisans.
And then I met my Love. (see my contact page for a
photo). And since meeting this wonderful woman did I
return to my roots in Sturbridge, living here for the past
couple of years, creating these pieces that I now
showcase to you. Along with my Sweetie, I reside here
with her two wonderful and adorable boys, kids whose
father I would be glad to be. Oh, and there are three
crazy cats as well, Miles, Fenway, and the latest
addition, Boo.
And along with my art I have recently started substitute
teaching at the local elementary school, as well as
subbing at other schools and high schools. To give my
insight and knowledge to children, and watch them
gain confidence with their own innate talents, can only
give me tremendous satisfaction.
So there you have it! I certainly hope that it wasn't too
painful and that now you get a glimpse into my life and
who I am. I certainly appreciate you wading through my
personal drivel, and if perchance you have the desire to
contact me, please do so at my email address, or just
send me a letter via the post office. I will be honored to
hear from you.
Thanks again for stopping by! Enjoy my site. And of
course any and all comments and criticisms are
welcome!
Paul

That is indeed me, when I modeled for this
excellent artist, Dennis Cheaney. I posed for him
quite a bit, and please do check out his work at:
www.dennischeaney.com, or his site where you
can enroll in one of his fabulous and most
instructive classes. I am quite sure you will
agree with me that he is a fine and
accomplished artist.

My Studio!
Now that spring has arrived, I have
moved my paints and other items from
the basement down to my atelier in the
bottom portion of the garage.
Soon shall I render many other
landscapes, along with a smattering of
painted furniture, so do please come
along for the ride!
To the main body of text to your right, you
will find two more snapshots of my
studio as it is now. Both photos show my
easel set up and raring to go!
All in all it should be a very productive
spring & summer and I am looking
forward to it with much relish. Or is it
mustard?....
I enjoyed posing for Amy at her lovely studio in Brookline, and we became good friends over the many weeks it took to compose this wonderful painting, chatting amiably and occasionally sipping upon a fine single malt scotch .
Her attention to detail, form and lighting is superb and, unlike the many students that have tried, she managed to capture my face and personality perfectly. That's me on the left.
( Normally, when I model, I don't wear a brown rectangle...)

Yeah, that's me,
attempting to be a
clothes model. For some
reason most people,
especially kids, think that
upon 1st glance I appear
alien in nature. That's
why, for the most part, I
do not photograph well.
And that is why when I
modeled for
innumerable art
students, their drawings
always depicted my face
as though I had just
arrived on earth from
some distant planet. But
that's ok.

For a wonderful painting
of me see the paintings
below by Amy Sudarsky,
a fabulous professor at
the Art Institute, as well
as a dear friend.
My easel and
canvas,
awaiting a few
brushstrokes
as well as
many hours
spent creating
some choice
landscapes.
As I said earlier, me
slightly harried, but
look! My studio is now
in tip-top shape, and
awaiting my
presence. Just see
the pics below, and
you can tell how much
progress I made. Oh,
and I kept this photo
around to show you
what a fantastic view I
have right outside my
'barn door' that leads
into my garret. Well,
ground-level garret,
that is.
